They are so against it. Some look at this through a religious point of view, but the dress code is not about religion.\u201cDress codes can be found anywhere in the world, in any government. It distinguishes bet\u00adween formal work hours and leisure,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"content_1_inlineAd\" class=\"inlineAd\" style=\"float: left;width: 100%\">\n<div id=\"inlineAd1\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1392882089877-0\" style=\"width: 600px\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">Azih added that while the private sector allowed flexibility in dressing, this was not the case with the public sector, and this was something that \u201cis not understood by the new generation\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">\u201cWe, government servants, have our decorum. The old folks get it. But now, people just don\u2019t seem to care much,\u201d he said.In Muar, Bernama reported Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim as saying that the dress code at government buildings should not be questioned or politicised as it was related to a sense of propriety and respect.\u201cThe existing dress code is not race-specific,\u201d Razali told reporters yesterday after chairing a Muar Umno meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">He added that dressing appropriately was also in accordance with the fifth principle of the Rukun Negara \u2014 <i>Kesopanan dan Kesusilaan<\/i> (respect and a sense of decency).Razali argued that the dress code should not be relaxed just because some quarters refused to comply with it as there were millions of citizens who respected it.A survey by <i>The Star<\/i> found that most security personnel at government buildings felt they were caught in the middle when enforcing the dress code, which prohibits shorts as well as skirts that do not cover the knees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">At Putrajaya\u2019s Road Transport Department office, a guard said: \u201cA few days ago, a woman wearing a short skirt walked into the office.\u201cI had to ask her to leave. I got scolded, but I had to do my job,\u201d she said. Another female representative of <a href=\"https:\/\/fastguardservice.com\">security guard services<\/a> pointed out: \u201cIf a visitor refuses to listen to us, we will call in an officer and let him or her explain the rules,\u201d she said. \u201cThat has always been the protocol.\u201dAn officer concurred, saying giving <i>sarong<\/i> to \u201cinappropriately dressed\u201d visitors was never part of the procedure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif\">Azih said it was preferable for counter staff to be the ones doing the \u201cadvising\u201d, especially if the security guard was a foreigner.\u201cA foreigner telling you off about how you dress is different from when a Malaysian does it.
